In a hopes to help the frugal survivalist and prepper out there here are 10 items we find very useful for under 15 dollars. I personally have purchased several of these items and hope to pick up the rest. We have seen a few of these posts recently on other sites but we like our selections a little better. Here are our top 10 in almost no particular order.

Reduces turbidity by filtering particles of 15 microns while Removing 99.99999% of all bacteria & parasites. A little smaller then the other and harder to sip but just as easy to use and an excellent value. I put this at the top of my list for a reason.

This is a combination of two essential survival items: a signaling mirror and whistle. It is highly visible, floats and has a breakaway lanyard. For the money its an amazing deal.
I think every one who at the very least hikes, should own one. Stick it in your pack, or a loved ones, and forget about it. Note: this item was recommended by a friend. I have not purchased one yet.

This is a 20 pack of emergency rescue, survival blankets that provide protection in all weather conditions. They retain and reflect 90% of all body heat. They are individually sealed and folded to a compact wallet size.
Multipurpose is an understatement. Think, windbreak, ground cloth, sun shade, solar reflector, emergency signal, sleeping back cover or liner among others.

A Compact fire starter with ferrocerium rod and metal striker. This product is a collaboration between Gerber and Bear Grylls.This is a must-have for scouting, camping, and hiking expeditions.
Cram a bunch of cotton balls into the cap for additional tinder. And this comes with a whistle. Once again… buy this thing, throw it in your pack and forget about it.

No survival kit is complete with out paracord. This is an essential for all survivalist and preppers. It is a light weight nylon cord that was used in parachutes during WWII. It is also known as 550 cord as it can hold up to 500 lbs.
There are several emergency uses for this stuff and the list goes on and on. There are several websites out there that can give you an idea of how many things this can be used for.
The inner strings can be used for many things even fishing line, dental floss, emergency suture material, or clothing repair.
Per the Wikipedia: Hikers and other outdoor sports enthusiasts sometimes use “survival bracelets” made of several feet of paracord which is woven into a compact and wearable form. Such bracelets are meant to be unraveled when one needs rope for whatever purpose — securing cargo, lashing together poles, fixing broken straps or belts, assisting with water rescues, controlling bleeding with a tourniquet, etc.

This is the go to book for survival. Not just for preppers and survivalist but any camper, hiker or wilderness fan. This book covers things such as plants and animals to avoid, eat or use as medicine, tool making, fishing, knot tying, tracking, first aid and so much more.
This book was written by a soldier in the Special Air Service, an elite branch of the British Army. He eventually became a survival instructor and his book is one of the most renowned among all of its kind. Grab this book and throw it in your sack.

A popular item among the prepper community. Its easy to pack and carry and only takes one AA battery. It can do a tail stand to act as a candle, and it also has a flashlight and lantern mode.
A glow in the dark on and off button helps as well. The light is bright and if focused can light up a figure from 100 yards. Not bad at all for the price, not bad at all.

These are great for anyone building bug out bag, or disaster & emergency kit. This 2 pack food ration kit consist of 18 bars providing 410 calories per bar. They have been approved by the US Coast Guard.
They are smaller than you would believe and taste like a very dry butter cookie. They have a modest shelf life of 5 years. For the price you really cant go wrong.

There is a reason why every one picks a knife as the #1 tool to have. Its uses are endless. This knife has a 3.4″ inch blade and a 4.5″ handle. it can be opened with one hand which leads people to believe there is some sort of assist when opening but there is not. Just a thumb stud.
It is extremely light and looks nice. For less than 13 dollars one could consider this a steal. Very sharp out of the box.

What good is all of the gear you just bought with out a bag or bucket to place it in? Its not a huge ruck sack but it get the job done. I know I said I would keep it under 15 dollars but the packs for that price were all junk. I had to include this one item over 15.00 dollars.
I call this a day pack. Its not large enough to fit 2 weeks worth of gear and the kitchen sink, but for the price and size I would say its the best in its class. Its water resistant and can add on to an ALICE pack.
