Interview: Ask a prepper – Survival For Blondes

In another installment of ask-a-prepper we get a chance to hear from the women over at Survival For Blondes to find out a bit more about the aspects of prepping with blonde ambition.

How long have you been prepping for?
Since 2010.

Any reason why you began prepping? A specific event?
I was sitting at my desk about halfway through a murder mystery when a not-so-little voice reminded me of Edgar Cayce’s pole shift prediction I read about in the 60s. I began some initial research and found out I wasn’t marching alone to the beat of that different drummer.

Do you live in an Urban setting or a rural one?
Urban. The Blondes are definitely city mice.

If the time comes are you bugging out or in?
Depends on the situation. Prepared to do both.

Has prepping changed your lifestyle?
Oh, yeah. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Priorities are now things that would make our lives easier during a collapse of any kind rather than things that would make us more comfortable should things stay the same.

Do your preps include an underground shelter or bunker?
Good Lord, no. We will take our chances up here. Have a phobia that even keeps us out of basements.

If times ever got tough would you work solo or with a support group?
With a group. Anything severe would require teamwork. Many different skills needed.

If you could give a new prepper some advice based on your past mistakes, what would they be?
Find some folks of like mind and follow them. Start with 72 hour preps for various situations: bug-in, live in vehicle & relocate.

Did your significant other have a problem with your prepping? Did he/she back you?
The Blondes answer to no one!! Our way or the highway. Of course, we have a network of folks of like mind.

Kids. If you have any are they incorporated? If so how? Were they hesitant on doing so?
Cats. They are included in all prepping plans.

Can you share any tips for the elderly or low income families who wish to prep but are unsure of how to start based on said age or income level?
Get as healthy as you can. Stock up on any meds you will require. Start with 3 days, then 2 weeks, then 3 months, then 6 months. Find alternative health methods of dealing with any illnesses you are treating. Homeopathy, herbs, essential oils, vibrational medicine.

Doomsday Preppers. Has the show hurt or helped the prepping community?
Anything that brings awareness is good. No such thing as bad press.

Does your extended family or friends give you slack about prepping?
No. If they did, they would be loved and let go of.

If nothing happens in your lifetime or children’s lifetime for that matter, would you feel that you wasted your time and money?
Absolutely not. Time spent getting ready for anything is never wasted. If for no other reason, we have met some fabulous new friends. An astral family, as it were.

Want to give some advice to a new prepper?
Don’t allow yourself to get overwhelmed. Think first of what is most likely to happen in your area. Hurricane, tornado, flood. Prep for 72-hours. Then pick another scenario. Do a 72-hour prep for every scenario you care to think about. Then take everything to another level.

Here is a fun question. If you had to pick one item to aid you on an deserted island… what would it be?
A magic wand.

Last words or thoughts you wish to share?
Listen to that little voice. Pray, meditate, whatever gets you to your peaceful place. Build a community of like-minded folks all over the world.

I am a blogger, father, and I can be a geek at times. Self sufficiency is really just a hobby I still have a lot to learn about. I created this blog.... umm. I honestly don't even know why anymore.
