I am a blogger, father, and I can be a geek at times. Self sufficiency is really just a hobby I still have a lot to learn about. I created this blog.... umm. I honestly don't even know why anymore.

Most people would never train an attack dog or know how to control one. We see some of the negative issues in cities where dogs are encouraged to be aggressive without proper training. Nice article. I am also a blogger and your can visit at http//www.survivalsolutionssupply.com

If trained right attack dogs can be amazing. I however know several law enforcement k9 handlers that are full of scars. No thanks!

The Akita is an amazing guard dog. They are a quiet breed until someone or something is near that shouldn’t be and their bark is one that stops people in their tracks! They are relentlessly loyal and will not hesitate to protect their family and home. They are a tricky breed however, are natural escape artists and have intense hunting instincts. They are another dog better suited to ‘experienced’ dog owners who will commit to training and socializing, BUT in my own (biased) opinion, Akitas are a wonderful choice as both a family member and as protection. Thanks for this great list!

You’re welcome Kate. I can’t say I know an awful lot about Akita’s but I know they sure are beautiful! Thanks for the heads up!

I firmly believe the Boerboel should top your list, we have been successfully using them for protection in homes and farms in South Africa for years. They have been ‘field tested” so to speak and passed with flying colours.

Between my wife and I, we have owned #4,5,6,&10. I would put the English Mastiff, Cane Corso and Wolf Collie in place of the boxer, collie, elkhound. Still a very impressive list though.

I agree with the Cane Corso. We have one and an English bull terrier and an Alaskan shepherd (GSD X malamute) and the Cane Corso is by far the most protective naturally
