Effective homemade rat poison that cost next to nothing

Effective homemade rat poison that cost next to nothing. As always for those who don’t like to read you can find a video below.

Fat rat

During the winter months they raid our country home and go after whatever food they can find. While a nuisance, the possibility of them contaminating our food with us unaware is always a prospect that has us uneasy. If one of us fell sick, it would be unfortunate, but if one of us fell sick while our normal ways of life were interrupted (pick a disaster scenario) falling ill could transition to something a little more dire. In our house we personally used many traps to stop our mice problems but often times they were too clever for the traps. They more times than not could retrieve the food without setting off the trap and they were able to avoid the sticky traps all together. A family member offered up an interesting homemade rat poison method that has worked well for us this winter.

To make this method of rat poison measure out 1 part oatmeal to 1 part plaster of Paris and place in a mixing container while adding and generous amount of sugar. Add enough water to create a doughy consistency. Roll the dough into golf ball-sized balls and place them in locations where you have seen mice or rats.

The poison works over time. As it is consumed the plaster of Paris settles in the rodents stomach without being digested. Over days the rodent will continue to feed from the poisonous balls until enough of it builds up into the system to kill it. It’s not a Humane death, but then again what methods are? Never have the poison in a position to where children or pets can come in contact with it.

The biggest pro to this besides the cost is that commercial rat poison is very dangerous when stored unused to small children and pets. This do-it-yourself poison when stored unused is simply some oatmeal, sugar and plaster of Paris. Using this on a daily basis (like traditional poison) will eventually eliminate your infection problem and save you a pretty penny in the process.

I am a blogger, father, and I can be a geek at times. Self sufficiency is really just a hobby I still have a lot to learn about. I created this blog.... umm. I honestly don't even know why anymore.

  • I once used poison for mice then got a very bad smell in the house. had to tear up my floor to find 3 dead mice. now I use traps. also there is a site on line where a guy goes to the patent office and finds old home made traps that are really effective.
