First Ever Printed Metal Gun: Tested and Fired

Amazing. This is our future. A printer that can print 3d components used to create pretty much anything. I have never been so amazed and frightened at the same time in my life. Solid Concepts has developed an all metal 3D printed handgun.

The gun is modeled after the popular 1911 frame and has already successfully fired off 50 rounds through it accurately. It is composed of over 30 3D printed components with Stainless Steel and Inconel 625 materials.

Solid Concepts, a leader in 3D printing services, says, “The whole concept of using a laser sintering process to 3D Print a metal gun revolves around proving the reliability, accuracy and usability of 3D Metal Printing as functional prototypes and end use products. It’s a common misconception that laser sintering isn’t accurate or strong enough, and we’re working to change people’s perspective.

I do not see your normal criminal having the connections to acquire a DMLS printer as they cost upwards of a million dollars. I do however see this problematic in the future. The black market has a far reach. My love for technology however trumps the cons. Good work guys.

More importantly for many of you is how this entire printing process works. Watch the video below on how Metal Sintering Works.
