A story that exposes the fatal consequences of open border policies and radical bail reform is unfolding in Illinois. Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, is facing serious charges after police in Waukegan discovered the body of Megan Bos, 37, decomposing in a bleach-filled storage container in his backyard.
Authorities say Mendoza-Gonzalez, 52, was arrested in April and charged with concealing a corpse, abusing a corpse, and obstruction of justice. Shockingly, Lake County Judge Randie Bruno released him under Illinois’ SAFE-T Act—legislation championed by progressives as “justice reform.” ICE agents were forced to re-arrest Mendoza-Gonzalez in July after he was found at a Chicago market.
Megan Bos disappeared in February. She was reported missing by her family in March, and her body was not discovered until April. Police say Mendoza-Gonzalez kept her body in his basement for two days after her death, then moved it outside and left it in a bleach-filled container for nearly two months.
Local leaders and federal officials are outraged. A DHS spokesperson condemned the release, calling it “absolutely repulsive that this monster walked free on Illinois’ streets.” State Representative Tom Weber asked, “Is hiding a body for 51 days really a non-detainable offense?”
Antioch Mayor Scott Gartner also blasted the state’s policies: “Not only the type of crime, how long the crime was concealed, but the fact that the person arrested for this is not a U.S. citizen and can maybe flee the country.”
This case is a chilling example of what happens when ideology trumps common sense, and when the rights of criminals are prioritized above the safety of American citizens.
Editor’s Note: Early reports claimed Bos was decapitated. The coroner later confirmed this was not the case.
